Saint Mark
aspires to become a congregation within which every adult, youth,
and child can find ways that help him or her feel closer to God. Worship as
liturgy is
the work of the people. Our worship has two complementary
functions, both of which require active participation and personal
commitment.
God created
humankind to praise God. The purpose
of worship is to honor and praise God as Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. At worship it is God who is the audience not the
congregation.
Each person is responsible to contribute everything he or she
has e.g. heart, voice, mind, attention to the glory of God.
Worship does not happen
to us we are called by God to praise
God and join with others who believe as we do to create a joyful
noise unto the Lord. The second part that fits so tightly with
the first is spiritual growth. This too is not received; a spiritual
journey requires action, our willing cooperation, and dedication
to move continually toward the goal
to be closer to God. |

Music Ministry
There is surely
no sound on earth more pleasing to God than that of an ordinary
congregation singing its heart out. At Saint Mark Presbyterian
Church we hope that silent spectators will become active participants.
The Chancel Choir
and the cantors help to lead our services. If it is true that
music and song accompany all spiritual revivals and are essential
in deepening spiritual life, the choir is an instrument of the
Lord through which his message may reach the hearts of the congregation.
The Chancel Choir
rehearses each Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 PM and each
Sunday morning at 10:30 AM. in the choir room for the 11:00 AM
service from September through Pentecost. The choir is lead by
three professional section leaders, and sings a variety of styles,
from various ethnic to classic repertoire.
During the summer months, an informal Summer Choir meets each
week at 9:30 AM to rehearse music for the service following at
10:00 AM. Come once, twice, or every Sunday. This is a great opportunity
to participate in the music ministry if evening rehearsals are
not possible during the regular season.
Won't you consider this fun, rewarding time of ministry and fellowship?
