Saint Mark
aspires to become a congregation within which every adult, youth,
and child can find ways that help him or her feel closer to God. Worship as
liturgy is
the work of the people. Our worship has two complementary
functions, both of which require active participation and personal
commitment.
God created
humankind to praise God. The purpose
of worship is to honor and praise God as Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. At worship it is God who is the audience not the
congregation.
Each person is responsible to contribute everything he or she
has e.g. heart, voice, mind, attention to the glory of God.
Worship does not happen
to us we are called by God to praise
God and join with others who believe as we do to create a joyful
noise unto the Lord. The second part that fits so tightly with
the first is spiritual growth. This too is not received; a spiritual
journey requires action, our willing cooperation, and dedication
to move continually toward the goal
to be closer to God. |
